Tubal Ligation - Tubes UntiedQ: Approximately one year ago I had my tubes tied and I was wondering what is involved in the reversal of the tubal ligation? A: Unfortunately the reversal of sterilization is a much more complicated procedure than the actual tubal ligation. It involves a bigger bikini incision. Since Provincial Health plans usually do not pay for the procedure, we just keep you in hospital overnight and make sure you have enough pain medication for the next couple of days until the pain improves. The usual time off work is 6 weeks but I have had self-employed women back to work within 2 weeks. The success rate depends a lot on the original type of tubal ligation done and the skill of the operator. I have been doing reversals for more than 20 years and so have refined my technique a lot. If all else is normal, our success rate is well over 90%. |
